The fifth season of Music at the Museum, a monthly weekend free concert series at the Zimmerli Art Museum, kicks off Sunday, October 20, with two of our faculty members performing: Michelle Grondin Gergich on flute and Leighann Narum, guitar. The concert coincides with the museum’s “Home is Where…” exhibition, which displays a wide array of interpretations of home. The concert will focus on chamber music, the most intimate of musical art forms, and a medium in which composers have often turned to express a personal connection to their homeland. Nostalgia, praise, and even heartache resonate through works by composers from a variety of eras. University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music presents a special 40th Anniversary Concert of classical guitar music performed by students and alumni from the Department of Classical Guitar. The performance, in the Patricia Corbett Theater, is the centerpiece of a celebratory weekend during which students, alumni and supporters of the Classical Guitar Department will gather at CCM to celebrate the department’s 40th year. The grand finale of this program will be the premiere performance of “Guitarras Luminosas” (2013) composed by guitarist and composer Jeffrey Van, of the faculty of the University of Minnesota.
